"My first contact with the flute occurred while I was returning from my ballet lesson (I attended ballet classes for eight years). While I was taking off my rigid ballet shoes in the classroom at the school of music where the classes were held, a young flute professor entered the room. It was the first time I heard those sounds that were so mesmerizing to me. My fascination with the sound and the beauty of this instrument was instantaneous —love at first sight. Those mere few minutes were enough to make me give up ballet lessons and start learning to play the flute. I cannot express the pleasure and thrill which I felt upon the first real contact with my instrument. That magic has continued all my life!"

"My name is Juraj Kojš, and I am an artist from Slovakia and USA, exploring the fields of music, sound art, poetry, mixed media, multimedia, theater and technologies as a maker and performer. Producing other people’s works, doing scholarly research and teaching also give me joy, while living in Miami, FL.
My works received awards at Europe—A Sound Panorama, Miami New Times Best Off Award, Eastman Electroacoustic Composition and Performance Competition and the Digital Art Award. Miami New Times described my muscle-powered multimedia Neraissance as “striking and unforgettable,” and MiamiArtzine called Signals “enthralling and immersive.” Miami Herald praised Bang for the Train as “the most profound…unexpected and enjoyable.”
Organizations that commissioned works from me include The Quiet Music Ensemble, Miami Light Project, Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble, Meet the Composer, Harvestworks, Miami Theater Center, MDC LIve Arts, Deering Estate and Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. Currently, I am an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at University of Miami’s Frost School of Music."

The Other Graduation is a NYSCA supported, ground-breaking lecture - concert series designed to help young musicians who have recently graduated or are about to graduate understand the broad variety of possible career choices as professional musicians in the contemporary art and music world. Often trained in a formal, closed setting, focused on excelling in their own discipline and in a very traditional way and a classroom or studio setting within an educational institution, students graduate inadequately prepared for the ‘real world’ careers. As an active and somewhat unconventional educator (preference to hands-on approach, constantly changing and fluent curricula and lesson plan, small groups or individual coaching and mentoring, implementation of technology, insisting on collaborations, and in general, against all and any rigidity), Paracademia’s director and founder, Milica Paranosic has had numerous exposure to students, young musicians, music lovers who wanted to engage more that just on a hobby level, as well as those desiring a career change. Frequently, most did not know what their choices were. The range and dynamic of contemporary music professions has changed, and is continuing to change drastically. New professions are literally ‘invented’ every day. They are typically not mentioned, much less explored in traditional schools. Thinking ‘outside the box’ may not be popular or preferable in everyone’s opinion; however, it may be necessary in order to succeed in our already challenging and competitive profession.
